My Photography journey

My Photography journey

My tryst with Photography started in earnest in 2001-02 when I was working in Mumbai. I attended a photography workshop and got seriously interested in Photography, and since then there has been no looking back.

I am an Engineer and have always considered myself to be a typical left-brained analytical and logical person. Photography opened up the right side of my brain. It has helped me become creative and look at things from multiple perspectives. It helped me connect better with people. Today I am able to balance out my creative and analytical sides and this has helped me in my corporate career as well.

I have now been shooting for about two decades and absolutely enjoy the journey. Photography also feeds into my other passion which is traveling, and it has taken me to over 60 countries around the world, to places where I wouldn’t have thought of going. I have met several interesting people along the way and forged some deep connections.

I love travel and street photography. My work has been extensively featured in several publications in India and outside, and also in exhibitions in India and Bangladesh. I had my first solo exhibition titled YogAspire at the National Museum in Dhaka in 2016. I have conceptualized and shot a desk-top calendar every year for 5 years to raise money for charity. I won the 2nd prize in the Instagram #Recreatedclassics contest in June 2015 and my work was featured at Cannes.

In 2016, I combined my love for Photography and our combined family’s passion for gender equality, and we started a not-for-profit called My Daughter is Precious to create awareness for gender equality and support the education of young deserving girls through their graduation. We used to take polaroid photos of fathers with their daughters in underprivileged areas and give the photo to the father as a reminder of how precious his daughter is, treat her well and give her a good education. So far we have supported over 75 girls for their graduation.
